# Data Passports

Data passports can only be:

* Created, managed and linked to datasets by an Administrator
* Applied for by a Researcher
* Approved/Denied/Revoked by a Data Passport Approver or Administrator.

A data passport is a form of identification/clearance that a researcher must acquire before requesting access to certain datasets (via a data request). Data passports ensure that a user meets specific criteria before their permissions are granted to them.

Data passports can be:
